The Role Of Stress In Morphological Differentiation In Arabic: Acoustic Evidence And Pedagogical Insights For Second Language Instruction
Abstract
Stress, as a suprasegmentally feature, plays a crucial role in shaping the prosodic structure of Arabic words. In Arabic, stress is not merely a phonetic marker but a morphologically significant cue that contributes to meaning distinction and grammatical interpretation. For learners of Arabic as a second language (ASL), recognizing stress patterns provides essential guidance for distinguishing between morphologically similar words that differ in syntactic category, root derivation, or functional role.
